Mother’s Day Can’t Be Too Special

Happy Mother’s Day

I bought my wife flowers today for Mother’s Day tomorrow. The cashier asked if they were for Mother’s Day then proceeded to tell me how her dad wouldn’t buy her mother anything on Mother’s Day because she wasn’t his mother. Defending him, she said she thought he had a point. I said maybe, but he certainly didn’t get any points!

Besides that, he missed the bigger point. Moms can’t get enough thanks. You can’t overdo expressions of appreciation. You can’t give too many gifts. She is worth more than whatever you do to celebrate her this one day a year.

Yes, kids should give gifts, cards, whatever - but Dad needs to lead the pack and make sure it’s a special day for his wife. Gail and I don’t really buy gifts for each other on Mother’s Day or Father’s Day. Just cards - I add flowers on her day - but we coordinate everything to make it a special day for the other.

Honestly, I’m probably more thankful for the kind of mom my wife is and has been to our five kids than they. I know more than any of them what she willingly gave, invested, sacrificed. When I consider our family, the way our kids turned out, the kind of families they will build, I know the main reason is due to my wife.

One day isn’t enough to thank Mom for who she is and what she does. So make it a good day.

Her children rise up and bless her; her husband also, and he praises her, saying: “Many daughters have done nobly, but you excel them all.”

Proverbs 31:28-29
