Jott To Self (or anyone else)

April 4th, 2008 · No Comments · Technology, Time management

JottI’m going to let you in on one of my favorite technologies - Jott. How many times have you been away from the house or office and you think of something to do, to tell somebody, to schedule. You might not have paper and pencil - even if you did, you’re probably driving.

Jott to the rescue. Jott is a free online service that allows you leave a voice message from your cell phone and have it transcribed and sent as an email and/or text message to you or anyone in your Jott contact list.

Scenario: I’m driving to a meeting and think that Jott would make a helpful blog post. I tap the Jott phone number in my favorites list on my iPhone. Once answered, I hear the familiar, “Who do you want to Jott?” I say, “Myself.” I hear, “Jott to self”, then a beep. I say, “Blog about Jott.” I hear, “Got it”, and I hang up knowing my note has now been converted into an email and will be waiting for me in my inbox. Done.

You can send email/text messages to family members, friends, staff. You can even create groups and have a message sent to multiple people. Jott has now added capabilities to create reminders, lists, add events to your Google Calendar, post to your blog, have Amazon search for an item you see in a magazine and email you the top five recommendations, and many others.

Did I mention free?! You can explore the capabilities at Jott.com for yourself. Let your first Jott to self be to thank God for me giving you this tip.

If you’re already a Jott user, what techniques are most helpful for you?
