Churches often add to the information overload everyone faces. It’s easy to give every event and announcement equal billing. When eyes gloss over and ears become numb, we just say it more and louder.
Reel it in a bit. Everybody doesn’t need to know everything. Think about who needs to know what and when. What’s the best use of the bulletin space; pre-service slides; email.
One tool we just started using is so easy but the effect has been huge. Each Friday, we send out an email to every attender called “Top 5 Things You Need To Know”. A simple heading for each followed by a short sentence of bare minimum essentials and listed in order of priority.
It’s really just a reminder - a way to help your people focus. They’ll love it. You could make the list less - I wouldn’t list more than five. You could use the same concept several different ways - post to your website, list in the bulletin, etc. The key is focus.
What has your church found helpful in cutting through informational overload through effective communication techniques?
